Recording feeds: which side is next and how long since the last

A feed is recorded in three taps: start, switch sides, finish. Everything else —the bottle, the millilitres, correcting a time— is for later, in daylight.

Which side do I start on

It is the one question a clock cannot answer, and the one nobody remembers at four in the morning. It comes from the last side used, and napnap shows it before anything else.

The server works it out, not the screen, so that today's view and the feeds view cannot say different things.

What has built up is kept in seconds, not minutes

A three-minute feed exists. Rounded to minutes it vanishes from the balance between sides, and the balance is exactly what gets looked at when one side produces less.

Closing the app stops nothing: what has built up is saved and what is running is worked out, so the stopwatch is still where you left it.

A feed lasts as long as the counter said

And not the sum of the two sides. They are the same number as long as nothing breaks —a feed has no pauses here— but when they were two separate sums the same feed said 17 minutes in one place and 22 in another.

Now the clock is what counts, because that is what was watched running, and the split between sides keeps its proportion and always adds up to the total.

And the counter has no ring, on purpose

The sleep one fills against an hour napnap knows how to work out. Here that hour does not exist: this app does not predict when hunger will arrive.

A ring filling up would be a promise it cannot keep.

Questions

Can bottles be recorded?
Yes, expressed milk or formula, with their millilitres. There are no sides or per-side stopwatch there: saving both sets of fields at once would be saving a feed that never happened.
What happens if I forget to close a feed?
It stays recorded, because what is recorded belongs to the household, but it stops counting towards the averages. A feed of more than three hours is a forgotten button, not a feed.
